Crown Jewel

Crown Jewel 2 was born in Germany in 2006, a grey gelding registered with the Oldenburg warmblood studbook. He carries top-tier European show-jumping bloodlines: his sire’s line comes from the distinguished Holsteiner family, with Coronado I as his father, himself a direct son of the world-renowned jumping sire Corrado I, tracing back to Cor de la Bryère and Capitol I, two cornerstones of the modern warmblood. His dam line descends from the Alabaster family, lending him exceptional rideability, a steady temperament, and a quick mind for learning. Across five generations his pedigree shows no inbreeding, a sign of strong genetic diversity and a sound constitution.

With such bloodlines and natural athletic gift, Crown Jewel 2 was brought up for international show jumping from an early age. He competed in national-level classes in Europe, reaching National Grand Prix level and clearing 1.40-metre courses with consistency: a fine jump, quick reflexes, and a careful, focused way of meeting a fence. A competition horse of both ability and reliability.

In 2017 he was imported to Taiwan and sold to a private owner, continuing his show-jumping career. Years of high-intensity training and competition brought rich experience, but also, gradually, degenerative changes in both front knees. In 2019 he moved to the Hannover Equestrian Club. With his knees no longer suited to intense jumping, yet blessed with excellent obedience, a calm character, and an elegant presence, he was chosen for the New Taipei City Police mounted unit, beginning another important chapter.

On duty, Crown Jewel 2 worked around eight hours a day: city patrols, security for large events, crime-prevention outreach, and community service. No longer chasing victory through speed and height, he simply walked beside his fellow officers, moving through the crowds, becoming one of the most familiar and best-loved horses on the force. After eight years of service, the pasterns of both forelegs slowly developed bony growth and degenerative arthritis, the marks left by years of competition and duty, and a reminder that every fine working horse deserves proper care and a gentle retirement.

Today Crown Jewel 2 has begun his retirement at the Suiye Farm Retired Horse Sanctuary. There is no pressure of competition here, no long hours of duty, only ample rest, attentive medical care, and an old age in which he is respected and cherished. His life spanned the arenas of Europe, the jumping courses of Taiwan, and the streets on mounted patrol: different roles, different missions, each one carried out with loyalty. Now, at last, he can set down every responsibility and enjoy a quiet and a freedom that are entirely his own.
