Sunny

Sunny is a Percheron gelding from the United States. In 2011, at just six years old, he came to Taiwan and joined the Hannover Equestrian Club as a teaching horse. His tall, powerful frame let him safely carry larger riders, but what people remember is his gentle, kind nature. Day after day he quietly carried more weight than most teaching horses, and never complained.

In 2014, calm, brave, and obedient, he was chosen for the New Taipei City Mounted Police, beginning a very different life. Over eight years of service he took part in nearly every major duty and community event: festivals, New Year’s Eve, school life-education, traffic and anti-fraud outreach. For many children, Sunny was the first horse they ever touched; he would stand perfectly still, gently closing the distance between the police and the people.

Then, in January 2026, years of load took their toll: pain and lameness in his left foreleg, diagnosed as navicular disease, a degenerative condition that cannot be fully reversed. He had completed his mission. Now it was our turn to look after him.

Today Sunny lives at Suiye Farm. No more gear, no more long hours standing post, just sunlight, pasture, a soft breeze, and a family who only want him to rest well.
